Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about how ProveAPro works for homeowners and tradespeople — vetting, reviews, contacting trades, and getting listed.
For homeowners
Hiring through ProveAPro
Every applicant clears six checks before they list: identity, business registration, insurance, licensing where required, references, and a clean record (no active BBB or small-claims complaints). We re-verify yearly and pull the listing if anything lapses.
Yes, completely free. There are no fees, no premium accounts, and no commission on jobs. Tradespeople pay a subscription to be listed; you don’t pay a thing.
Open their profile and click “Get in touch.” We reveal their phone and email so you can contact them directly. No middleman, no platform messaging, no quote requests.
Every reviewer SMS-verifies their phone before the review goes live, which confirms a real person wrote it. The verification badge on each review reflects that phone check. SMS can't prove a reviewer isn't a friend or competitor, so we layer a public reply system on top: the tradesperson can post one public response, and the reviewer then has one chance to respond, after which the thread closes. If either party believes the other has made false claims, email hello@proveapro.com. We mark disputed threads as "under review" while we investigate and remove anything we find to be fake, paid for, or written with a conflict of interest. No platform can guarantee every review is from a perfectly disinterested customer, so read several before drawing conclusions.
HRM only: Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, and Sackville, plus the neighbourhoods within each. We grow as the platform grows; new regions come once we have enough demand and vetted tradespeople in them.
No. ProveAPro is a directory, not a contractor. We vet tradespeople at onboarding and remove them when problems surface, but we are not a party to the contract you sign with the tradesperson, and we do not guarantee the quality, safety or outcome of any specific job. Your legal remedy for poor or unsafe work is against the tradesperson directly, who carries their own liability insurance. Always confirm that insurance and licensing are current before work starts, and get a written quote. Section 13 of our Terms of Service sets this out in full, and your rights under the Nova Scotia Consumer Protection Act are preserved.
For tradespeople
Listing your business
Typically 5-7 days from when you submit your application. We may call you for a quick reference check or to confirm a detail. You’ll get a welcome email with a magic-link login as soon as you’re approved.
Free 60-day trial when you join. After that, a monthly subscription. Pricing is being finalised, and we’ll confirm the rate before any charge. Homeowners always use the platform free.
Yes. After approval, you log in to /dashboard and can update your bio, business details, categories, service areas, and contact info. Vetting status and listing visibility are managed by us.
We hold expiry dates on file and remind you ahead of time. If proof of liability isn’t updated by the lapse date, we temporarily hide your profile until you send the new certificate.
Yes. Pick every category that genuinely applies, up to 10. The aim is for homeowners to find you for the work you actually do.
